Karams: 4241 University Blvd S Jacksonville, FL 32216

Her thoughts:

Talk about a "hole in the wall" type of place. We have only lived in the immediate area for about a month but have been living in Jacksonville for years and have never heard of this place. We probably still would not know about it today had it not been for a family member who asked to go there for lunch. Of course the day we went, it was closed...bummer.

Well, tonight we were able to go try it for dinner. I got the chicken shwarma and he got the meat shwarma with a side of okra and hummus.

OH MY GOODNESS!

First bite and I knew I wanted to go back. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned and prepared by a solo, heavenly-shwarma making dude. Personally, I did not enjoy the humus. It tasted bland and actually too smooth, but I think that goes to the fact that I have always eaten the heavily seasoned humus you get at Publix. No worries though. Such a small thing would not keep me away.

His thoughts:

This place. I'll admit that from the outside, and even when you walk in, certain things might turn you off. The building doesn't have a whole lot of curb appeal and the inside is extremely simple. The menu is simple and the owner/chef (i presume) tried to help us pick stuff out. The language barrier was pretty thick, but he helped us narrow it down to the right things. Serving sizes are fairly large. I got the meat shawarma. I can't remember what the meat consisted of, but it's not like mystery hot dog or bologna meat. Tabbouleh and hummus were my sides. Pita pockets stand in for your regular bread at other restaurants. The lamb was not nearly as greasy as others that I've tried. Tabbouleh was super fresh and had a nice twang to it. The hummus tasted fresh and clean. As she mentioned, we're pretty used to the flavored hummus at your local grocer, so it was a nice departure from the norm. I prefer this stuff over the store bought. They might buy it from a certain vendor or prep it themselves, but the quality is there.

All this food for a little under $30. Go and try it you won't be disappointed.
